DescriptionThe whole story▼
A red bike, a helmet graphic with red in it, and a summer of mountain passes ahead: for that combination Shark makes article VZ30046P in Red. This SKU, VZ30046PREDTU, is an iridium mirror visor for the Spartan RS and Spartan GT Pro, and unlike the silver and rainbow versions of the same number it is cleared by Shark for road use in daylight.
Key Features
- Red iridium mirror, "RED" in the Shark Range Book 2027
- Shark's wording: approved day use only (Range Book 2027, page 36)
- For the Spartan RS and Spartan GT Pro, confirmed by Shark's compatibility list
- Integrated housing for the Max Vision Pinlock 120; insert VZ16018P sold on its own
- Anti-scratch treatment, per the supplier line "VISOR ANTISCRATCH IRIDIUM"
- About 180 g, EAN 3664836744766
About this tint
Up on a pass in July, the road surface turns pale and the sun seems to come from everywhere. A mirrored face reflects some of that light before it gets to your eyes, so squinting on the long uphill sections eases off. From the outside the visor shows red, which ties the helmet to a red tank or fairing.
The red is a look, not a filter setting. Shark gives no figure suggesting Red darkens the view more or less than Blue or Pink, so the choice between them comes down to taste and paintwork.
Road or track
On page 36 of its Range Book 2027 Shark labels this visor approved day use only. That is Shark's classification: fine for daylight rides, not meant for dusk or darkness. The supplier's own description of VZ30046P makes no statement about approval, so we quote the Range Book.
Passes have tunnels, and long days end in twilight. Any mirrored or dark visor is the wrong tool in both, so a clear spare in the tank bag makes sense; within this family Shark lists the clear VZ30012P, code INC, for all users.
Fitment
Shark itself names the two helmets on its compatible-visor page: Spartan RS and Spartan GT Pro. Both belong to visor family VZ300, which is why a single article number fits either.
Fitting
On a trip, a visor change at a café stop is realistic. The visor sits on Shark's patented four-point anchor system; take the release steps from the helmet's manual the first time at home rather than at the roadside. Once mounted, check that the central grip locks, try the vent notch, and adjust the handling resistance so the visor holds its position when you flip it partly open at walking pace.
Signs it needs replacing
Summer touring wears a mirror down gradually: bugs at every stop, dust from roadworks, a visor put face down on a café table. Each leaves fine marks that turn into a haze when you ride towards the sun. If the coating shows light spots or the view through one area looks milky, the visor has done its job.
Care
At the end of a riding day, a wet paper towel laid on the visor for a few minutes loosens insects without scrubbing. Clean with water and a soft microfibre cloth; skip glass cleaner, petrol-station screen wash and any solvent, because the reflective coating is more sensitive than the visor itself. Set the helmet down with the visor facing up or away from hard surfaces.
