DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Puig Z-Racing windscreen for the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (2017–2023) is one of the few aftermarket screens to carry ABE type approval (38182), meaning it is fully legal for road use without exception — while simultaneously delivering up to 61% improved aerodynamic protection in a full race tuck compared to the standard screen. Where other performance screens force a compromise between track efficiency and street legality, the Z-Racing is engineered to offer both.
Key Features
- ABE type approval 38182 confirms road legality across Germany and is recognised throughout the EU — no grey area, no deregistration risk.
- Virtual wind tunnel validation demonstrates up to 61% improved aerodynamic protection when riding in an aggressive race position, reducing fatigue on longer runs.
- Double-height profile channels airflow efficiently over the helmet and chest rather than directly into the rider, lowering upper-body wind pressure at motorway and track speeds.
- Lateral cutaways at the screen edges relieve shoulder pressure — a detail that makes a measurable difference on extended track sessions or fast A-roads.
- 3 mm acrylic construction balances optical clarity with the rigidity needed to maintain its aerodynamic profile under high-speed buffeting.
- Seven colour options — from clear and tinted through to carbon look — allow exact matching to the GSX-R's livery without compromising function.
Aerodynamic Performance
Puig developed the Z-Racing profile using virtual wind tunnel simulation specifically around an aggressive, tucked riding stance. At speed, conventional screens generate turbulence that hits the helmet at an upward angle, creating lift and neck strain. The Z-Racing's extended height and carefully radiused top edge redirect that flow cleanly rearward, and the side notches bleed off the pressure that would otherwise pile up against the shoulders. The result is a calmer cockpit environment that lets the rider focus on the road or the next braking point.
Build Quality
At 3 mm thickness, the screen is noticeably more substantial than many OEM replacements. Puig manufactures it from high-grade acrylic that resists UV yellowing and minor stone chips better than thinner materials. Each screen is pre-drilled to match the original GSX-R mounting points, so installation uses the factory hardware with no modification required. The range of seven finishes — transparent, tinted, dark tinted, black, blue, red and carbon look — are integral to the material rather than surface-applied films, so colour depth is retained over the screen's lifespan.
Fitment and Compatibility
This windscreen is engineered to fit the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 for model years 2017 through 2023. It uses the original mounting points and requires no cutting, drilling or additional brackets. Puig part number: 9013.
