DescriptionThe whole story▼
The OZ Piega R front wheel for the Yamaha YZF-R1/M (RN32, RN49 and RN65, 2015-2026) is engineered for riders who demand every mechanical advantage a forged aluminium wheel can offer. Developed directly by the OZ SBK Racing division, the Piega R sits a step above the standard Piega range in terms of weight reduction — translating that saving into sharper turn-in, reduced gyroscopic resistance and measurably better stability when you are fully committed at the limit of traction.
Key Features
- Forged aluminium construction reduces rotating mass compared to the standard Piega series, freeing the front end to respond faster under braking and mid-corner steering inputs
- Five-spoke Piega R design, born from OZ's SBK Racing programme, balances structural rigidity with the lowest possible unsprung weight penalty
- Available in anodised Techno Black or anodised Techno Gold — both finishes add a purposeful, track-bred aesthetic to the YZF-R1/M
- Supplied complete with high-quality bearings, aluminium angled valve stems and spacers where required, so the wheel is ready to mount without hunting for ancillaries
- Made in Italy to OZ Racing's exacting manufacturing tolerances for consistent concentricity and long service life under repeated high-speed loading
- Exclusively track-use specification — every design decision prioritises outright performance over road compromise
Built for the Track, Shaped by Racing
The Piega R's five-spoke architecture was not drawn on a styling brief; it emerged from finite-element analysis carried out by OZ's SBK Racing engineers to find the optimal spoke geometry for the stress patterns generated at race pace. The result is a wheel that is lighter than the road-legal Piega yet meets the structural demands of sustained high-speed cornering, heavy braking and the lateral loads produced by modern slick tyres. Forged aluminium gives the spokes a grain structure unavailable in cast alternatives, underpinning both the weight saving and the fatigue resistance that repeated track days demand.
Finish and Appearance
Both colour options — anodised Techno Black and anodised Techno Gold — are electrolytic anodised rather than painted, meaning the finish bonds into the aluminium surface rather than sitting on top of it. The result is a hardened, corrosion-resistant layer that holds its appearance through tyre-change sessions, kerb strikes and paddock life far better than a painted wheel. Either finish pairs naturally with the aggressive bodywork lines of the YZF-R1 and R1M.
