Build Quality and Materials
The Piega is not a cast wheel with a racing badge — it begins life as a solid forged aluminium billet, a process that aligns the grain structure of the metal and produces a wheel that is simultaneously lighter and stronger than equivalent cast designs. OZ developed the Piega R-series exclusively within their SBK Racing department, applying the same material science and quality controls used for factory Superbike programmes. The result is a component that needs no derating for road use: it is built to endure the stresses of a racetrack and will comfortably outlast the demands of everyday riding.
The anodised surface treatment is integral to the aluminium, not a coating applied on top. This means the finish resists stone chips, brake-dust contamination and the chemical aggression of tyre sealants or road cleaning products in a way that painted surfaces cannot match.
Performance on Road and Track
Reducing rotational inertia at the front axle has a disproportionate effect on motorcycle dynamics. The Piega's mass savings mean the front end responds more readily to steering inputs, enabling the RSV4 or RSV4 1100 to change direction with greater precision and less physical effort. Braking distances are shortened as the wheel decelerates faster, and the reduced gyroscopic effect allows the bike to lean and straighten with noticeably less resistance. On track, these gains compound over every corner of every lap. On the road, they translate into a more communicative, confidence-inspiring front end.
