DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Öhlins KA 465 exists because the Kawasaki Z H2 (2020–2022) needed its own settings, not a shared set. The unit it replaces was chosen when the Z H2 was costed, not when it was developed.
Key Features
- Remote hydraulic spring-preload adjuster on a flexible hose
- 36 mm piston diameter
- Twin-tube TTX damper layout
- Listed by Öhlins for the Kawasaki Z H2 (2020–2022) and no other machine
- Supplied with Öhlins spring 21040-44
- Delivered with a 120 N/mm spring, selected for the Z H2
- Adjustable overall length for ride-height and geometry changes
- Gas-pressurised damper with a piggyback external reservoir
The Z H2 in Particular
This part number spans model years 2020 to 2022; earlier and later generations take different numbers. Without a fairing there is no aerodynamic load to settle the chassis, so mechanical grip does all the work.
Where This Sits in the Öhlins Line-up
Because the adjusters meter flow directly rather than bleeding it, a single click produces a change the rider can feel. What separates TTX from a conventional damper is not the piston size but the oil path. In a twin-tube damper the compression and rebound circuits never share oil, so neither can starve the other.
Construction and Material Quality
Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Shafts are hardened and surface-treated so the seal has a consistent surface to run against.
Damping and Adjustment
With 312+6/-0 mm on offer, rear ride height can be raised to sharpen turn-in or dropped to calm the Z H2 down. The recommended oil is 01309; using something else changes the damping the shim stack was set for. A 120 N/mm spring comes fitted, and it is the first thing to reconsider if the rider is heavy or light. 57 mm of stroke is what the Z H2's linkage allows, and the shim stack is set for exactly that. Öhlins publishes a baseline setting for each part number, which is the sensible starting point. The adjuster range is usable end to end rather than only around the middle.
Fitment and Compatibility
Öhlins part number KA 465 is the correct number for the Kawasaki Z H2 as built 2020–2022. It is model-specific rather than universal: length, stroke and valving are all set for this chassis. Öhlins notes for this application: Not for SE version
Road Approval
Road approval: ABE (Germany). The unit is covered by a German ABE for the Kawasaki Z H2, so no individual inspection or entry in the vehicle documents is required. The approval document ships with the product.
Fitting and Setup Service
This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
