DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins lists part number DMX 0309 for one machine: the GasGas EC 250F built 2024–2026. The difference shows up in the second half of a fast road, when the standard unit has warmed through.
Key Features
- 457 mm between mounting eyes
- Damper stroke 137 mm
- Bolts to the GasGas EC 250F (2024–2026) using the standard mounting points
Setting It Up for the EC 250F
Enduro machines spend hours at low speed over roots and rock before the first fast section arrives, and the suspension has to be plush there without collapsing later. The 2024–2026 generation kept the same chassis dimensions throughout, so one Öhlins number serves the whole run.
Construction and Material Quality
Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Spring and damper are separate part numbers, so a rate change does not mean a new unit. The eyelets carry spherical bearings rather than rubber bushes, so the damper is not fighting its own mounting.
Damping and Adjustment
The recommended oil is 1304; using something else changes the damping the shim stack was set for. Öhlins specifies 457 mm here, so ride height stays as the factory set it. 137 mm of stroke is what the EC 250F's linkage allows, and the shim stack is set for exactly that. The adjuster range is usable end to end rather than only around the middle. Preload is set separately again, and preload is what determines static sag rather than damping.
Where This Sits in the Öhlins Line-up
The reservoir is mounted on the body rather than on a hose, which keeps the unit compact enough for modern MX linkages. Compression and rebound run as separate, permanently pressurised circuits — the twin-tube principle — so neither can starve the other on a fast series of hits. Service intervals are short by road standards — this is a racing damper, and Öhlins expects it to be opened regularly.
Fitment and Compatibility
Part number DMX 0309 and the GasGas EC 250F (2024–2026) belong together; other model years take other numbers. Öhlins lists no other machine against this number, so it is not a unit that can be adapted to a neighbouring model. Öhlins notes for this application: 06310- spring series. Preload adjuster 15000-02 fits this shock. *Replaced by DMX 1309*
Road Approval
Road approval: Öhlins publishes no approval status for this combination. Rather than guess, we say so — ask us before ordering if road use matters to you.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins suspension rewards careful fitting. We recommend having the work done by an authorised Öhlins service centre — and we are one ourselves: we fit, service and set up Öhlins components in house. If you would like us to handle the installation, just ask and we will quote it with the order.
