DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every Öhlins part number covers one machine. YA 009 covers the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer (2006–2016). The difference shows up in the second half of a fast road, when the standard unit has warmed through.
Key Features
- Listed by Öhlins for the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer (2006–2016) and no other machine
- Spring rate 120, set against this machine's weight
- 66 mm of travel at the damper
- 320 mm between mounting eyes
About the STX 46 Street Range
The spring is a separate item with its own Öhlins number, so a rate change does not mean a new damper. Öhlins quotes a 46 mm piston for this platform, which is the same diameter used in units costing twice as much. The 46 mm piston is the same size Öhlins uses in far more expensive units; what changes is the shim stack behind it.
Materials and Manufacture
Service parts stay available for years after a part number leaves the current price list. Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made.
Damping Performance
Öhlins builds it to 320 mm between the eyes for this chassis. The spring is wound to 120, and alternative rates are catalogue items. 66 mm of stroke is what the FZ1 Fazer's linkage allows, and the shim stack is set for exactly that. The two adjusters do genuinely separate jobs, which is what makes methodical setup possible. A single click produces a change most riders can detect, which is not true of every adjustable damper.
Fitted to the FZ1 Fazer
This part number spans model years 2006 to 2016; earlier and later generations take different numbers.
Fitment and Compatibility
Öhlins part number YA 009 is the correct number for the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer as built 2006–2016. Nothing about it is generic — the mounting dimensions alone rule out a different model.
Road Approval
Road approval: ABE (Germany). The unit is covered by a German ABE for the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer, so no individual inspection or entry in the vehicle documents is required. The approval document ships with the product.
