This position is identified by its number rather than by a dimension. The tube carries the end cap threads, so damaged threads mean a new tube rather than a repair. A scored bore means lost damping, because the oil bypasses the piston rather than being forced through the shims. The cylinder is one of the few damper parts that is genuinely wear-limited.
