- Öhlins part number 06817-01
Function
58 mm, 54.5 mm, 1 mm: that is the whole specification, and it has to match what came out. Öhlins uses metric threads throughout, but the length and head form are specific to the position. A spacer sets an internal dimension: preload on a stack, free length, or the position of a piston. Spacers are machined rather than cut, so the ends are square and the load is even.
Genuine Service Part
Parts remain available years after a unit leaves the current price list, which is unusual in this trade. Öhlins lists this part under its own number in the service catalogue so a workshop can order exactly what it needs. The exploded drawing for your unit names the number; if you do not have it, we do. Service parts are supplied per piece unless the description says otherwise.
Identifying the Right Part
Part number 06817-01 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. The published dimensions are inner diameter 58 mm, outer diameter 54.5 mm, thickness 1 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Stainless where corrosion matters, hardened where load matters — the choice is made per position. Thread size and length identify the fastener; substituting a hardware-store equivalent is not sensible in a pressurised damper.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
