What It Is
Öhlins publishes 14 mm, 30 mm, 10 mm for 10169-10 — the dimensions are the identity of the part. Retaining rings come in a groove-specific thickness — the next size does not hold. A spacer that is a millimetre short changes the preload on a shim stack, and with it the damping. Fasteners in a damper see pressure, heat and vibration at once, which is why the grade matters.
Why the Original
Öhlins supports its suspension with individual service parts, which is why a fifteen-year-old damper can still be rebuilt to specification. The tolerances here are the ones the unit was assembled to, not a pattern equivalent's interpretation of them. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on. Order by part number. The dimensions below are the ones Öhlins publishes for it.
Getting the Number Right
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 10169-10 in this case. Check dimension a 14 mm, dimension b 30 mm, dimension c 10 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. A spacer sets an internal dimension: preload on a stack, free length, or the position of a piston. A plug that seals a gas port is a pressure part despite its size.
Fitting and Setup Service
If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.
