Function
This one measures 12 mm, 15.5 mm, 24 mm, and those figures are what separate it from the neighbouring numbers. Öhlins gives every washer and spacer its own part number because its length or thickness is part of the internal geometry. Its length is a specification, not a filler — a millimetre changes what the unit does. A spacer sets an internal dimension: preload on a stack, free length, or the position of a piston.
Why the Original
Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. This is an original Öhlins part, not an aftermarket equivalent — the tolerances are the ones the unit was assembled to. Send us the model and serial number of your unit and we will confirm the position before you order. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.
Getting the Number Right
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 24629-31 in this case. Öhlins states dimension a 12 mm, dimension b 15.5 mm, dimension c 24 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. A wrong washer under an adjuster changes the click range without anyone noticing why. A spacer that is a millimetre short changes the preload on a shim stack, and with it the damping.
Fitting and Setup Service
If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.
