Function
The published figures are 51.9 mm, 53.9 mm, 102 mm. Measure the old part against them before ordering. A worn guide shows up as a knock over sharp edges. Worn bushings show up as a knock over sharp edges before they show up as a leak. A worn bushing lets the shaft move off centre, and the seal is the next thing to fail.
Why the Original
A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. Rebuilding to specification only works if the parts are to specification — that starts here. Öhlins parts are unit-specific: a close dimension is not a substitute. Send us the model and serial number of your unit and we will confirm the position before you order.
Identifying the Right Part
If the unit is already open, compare the dimensions below with the part in your hand before ordering 05189-02. The published dimensions are inner diameter 51.9 mm, outer diameter 53.9 mm, length 102 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Both diameters and the length are specification, not approximation. Both diameters and the length are specification rather than approximation.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
