DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 60360-02 is a shock absorber spring rated at 12-19 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the load enough that the standard rate stops working.
Key Features
- Free length 200 mm
- Öhlins part number 60360-02
- Measured spring rate 12-19 N/mm (progressive)
- Progressively wound
- 128 mm of usable stroke
- Inner diameter 46 mm
How Öhlins Makes Them
Shafts are hardened and surface-treated so the seal has a consistent surface to run against. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly.
Size and Rate
Dimensionally this is a 46 mm × 200 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 12-19 N/mm.
What the Rear Spring Decides
Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks. Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong.
Applications
There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units.
What Fitting Involves
Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes. Check the free length against the old springs before fitting — a sagged original often measures short. Preload spacers usually need shortening or lengthening so the installed length stays correct.
Road Approval
Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
