DescriptionThe whole story▼
Shims 8/12/0.15, Öhlins part number 00185-12. Revalving means changing the stack, not the piston — that is why shims are sold singly.

What It Is
This one measures 8 mm, 12 mm, 0.15 mm, and those figures are what separate it from the neighbouring numbers. Suspension technicians keep these in stock by size because a revalve means changing several at once. A coned or marked shim is finished — it no longer seals against its neighbour. Shims are reused only if they are undamaged and flat; a coned shim is finished.
Genuine Service Part
Öhlins keeps service parts available for units long after they leave the current price list. Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. The Öhlins exploded view names the number for each position; we can look it up if you do not have it. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.
Getting the Number Right
If the unit is already open, compare the dimensions below with the part in your hand before ordering 00185-12. inner diameter 8 mm, outer diameter 12 mm, thickness 0.15 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Revalving means changing the stack, which is why Öhlins sells shims individually. Two shims of the same thickness but different diameter give completely different damping.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
