DescriptionThe whole story▼
Shims 6/17/0.30, Öhlins part number 01430-17. A shim is a thin, ground steel washer, and the stack of them is what generates damping.

- Outer Diameter 17 mm
- Original Öhlins service part
- Öhlins part number 01430-17
Where It Sits
Öhlins publishes 6 mm, 17 mm, 0.30 mm for 01430-17 — the dimensions are the identity of the part. Öhlins stamps and grinds its shims to tolerances a general-purpose washer never holds. Face flatness matters as much as thickness — a shim that does not seal against its neighbour leaks damping. Revalving means changing the stack, which is why Öhlins sells shims individually.
Genuine Service Part
A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. Parts remain available years after a unit leaves the current price list, which is unusual in this trade. Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation. Send us the model and serial number of your unit and we will confirm the position before you order.
Getting the Number Right
Order under 01430-17. Where several sizes share a description, only the number separates them. The published dimensions are inner diameter 6 mm, outer diameter 17 mm, thickness 0.30 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Two shims of the same thickness but different diameter give completely different damping. Öhlins holds thickness to hundredths of a millimetre because that is the resolution damping changes at.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
