Where It Sits
The published figures are 12 mm, 31 mm, 0.20 mm. Measure the old part against them before ordering. Shims are reused only if they are undamaged and flat; a coned shim is finished. A shim is a thin, ground steel washer, and the stack of them is what generates damping. The stack is the tuning: outer diameter sets where the shim bends, thickness sets how hard it resists.
Genuine Service Part
Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. An original part keeps the unit within its published specification; a near-equivalent quietly moves it. If the unit is already apart, compare the published dimensions with the part in your hand. Tell us the damper's model designation and year and we will match the number for you.
Getting the Number Right
Öhlins identifies this position by the number 00520-31 in the exploded view for the unit it belongs to. Öhlins states inner diameter 12 mm, outer diameter 31 mm, thickness 0.20 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. Shim thickness is measured in hundredths of a millimetre because that is the resolution at which damping force changes. Revalving means changing the stack, which is why Öhlins sells shims individually.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
