What It Is
Dimensionally this is 10 mm, 29 mm, 19 mm, which is how it is told apart from the rest of the range. Öhlins uses seals with a spring-loaded lip so they follow the shaft as it wears. O-ring sizes are given as inner diameter and cross-section, and both have to match — a close size is not a match. Öhlins builds the head so the dust seal takes the grit before it reaches the oil seal.
Original Öhlins Part
Every part in this catalogue is one Öhlins fits itself during assembly and service. The tolerances here are the ones the unit was assembled to, not a pattern equivalent's interpretation of them. Öhlins parts are unit-specific: a close dimension is not a substitute. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.
Identifying the Right Part
Part number 21766-01 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Check inner diameter 10 mm, outer diameter 29 mm, thickness 19 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. A seal head combines the oil seal, the dust seal and the shaft bushing in one serviceable assembly. O-ring sizes are given as inner diameter and cross-section, and both have to match — a close size is not a match.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
