Damping and Adjustment
Installed length comes to 946 mm. Delivered spring rate: 4,7 N/mm, which suits a solo rider of average weight. 1330 is the Öhlins oil specification for this number. 300 mm of stroke is what the CRF450R's linkage allows, and the shim stack is set for exactly that. Öhlins supplies a baseline setting sheet with the fork. Settings are marked in clicks from fully closed, so they can be recorded.
The RXF 48 S in Detail
Öhlins built the RXF 48 for off-road racing: 48 mm tubes, separate compression and rebound adjustment, and in the S specification a coil spring rather than an air chamber. A coil spring holds its rate as the fork heats; an air spring does not, and that is the central argument for the conversion. Öhlins supplies the RXF 48 S with springs matched to the machine, and alternative rates are catalogue items.
Construction and Material Quality
Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Fork springs are separate catalogue items and can be changed without dismantling the cartridge. The two legs are built as a matched pair and tested as one assembly.
Fitted to the CRF450R
Braking bumps and jump landings load the suspension at the two extremes of its range within the same corner. The 2017–2026 generation kept the same chassis dimensions throughout, so one Öhlins number serves the whole run.
Fitment and Compatibility
