Preload tube 38.8/125.8, Öhlins part number 04763-50. The needle tip is the wear part: once rounded, the first few clicks stop doing anything.
Key Features
- Dimension B 125.8 mm
- Original Öhlins service part
- Öhlins part number 04763-50
- Dimension A 38.8 mm
Function
Öhlins publishes 38.8 mm, 125.8 mm for 04763-50 — the dimensions are the identity of the part. The adjuster knob is what the rider touches, and Öhlins colour-codes it by function. Öhlins specifies a defined number of clicks per adjuster so a setting is a number, not an impression. Compression and rebound adjusters are not interchangeable even when they look similar.
Why the Original
The tolerances here are the ones the unit was assembled to, not a pattern equivalent's interpretation of them. Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. Order by part number. The dimensions below are the ones Öhlins publishes for it. The exploded drawing for your unit names the number; if you do not have it, we do.
Getting the Number Right
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 04763-50 in this case. The published dimensions are dimension a 38.8 mm, dimension b 125.8 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Öhlins builds click adjusters with defined detents so a setting can be written down and returned to. The adjuster knob is what the rider touches, and Öhlins colour-codes it by function.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
