Function
This one measures 31 mm, 69 mm, and those figures are what separate it from the neighbouring numbers. Surface finish is specified in microns, because it decides how quickly the piston band wears. Corrosion inside a tube is terminal: it cannot be honed out without changing the clearance. The tube is what the whole damper is built around: everything else references its bore.

Part number 05643-03 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Check diameter 31 mm, length 69 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. The cylinder is one of the few damper parts that is genuinely wear-limited. A hard bottoming often leaves a witness ring inside the bore — that tube is finished.
