What It Is
00638-65 is the 34.29 mm, 5.33 mm, NBR 70 version — Öhlins lists each size separately. The groove does half the work: the ring only seals if the groove is clean and undamaged. Replacing seals at service intervals is far cheaper than replacing what a failed seal damages. Static seals and dynamic seals are not interchangeable even in the same size.

Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. Öhlins is one of the few suspension makers that still supplies every position in the exploded view as a single part. Öhlins uses seals with a spring-loaded lip so they follow the shaft as it wears. Assembly grease matters — the wrong compound swells the seal and it fails early.
