DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every Öhlins part number covers one machine. 08623-70 covers the Indian SCOUT (2015–2017). Rates are measured individually rather than taken from the winding specification.
Key Features
- Spring rate as delivered: 7.0, matched to the SCOUT
- Direct fitment on the Indian SCOUT (2015–2017)
Where This Sits in the Öhlins Line-up
Springs are sold in rate steps so a rider can move up or down without changing anything else. Öhlins winds, sets and then individually measures every spring before it is boxed. Fitting the correct rate changes ride height, static sag and how much of the fork's travel is actually usable.
Rate and Ride Height
Oil level is set at 335ml. Length is 380 mm and is not adjustable on this number. The fitted spring rate is 7.0, chosen against the SCOUT's weight distribution rather than a catalogue average. Damping was developed with 01316 in the unit. Rate is fixed by the spring, so the setup work is preload and oil level rather than clicks. Sag is set by preload once the rate is right; the two are not interchangeable.
Construction and Material Quality
Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. The unit is rebuildable: seals, shims and oil are catalogue items, not a reason to buy a new one.
Fitted to the SCOUT
Short travel and substantial mass are a hard combination: there is little room to absorb anything, so damping quality matters more. Öhlins covers the 3-year production run of this generation with a single part number, which means the mounting and the linkage stayed unchanged across it.
Fitment and Compatibility
Öhlins part number 08623-70 is the correct number for the Indian SCOUT as built 2015–2017. It is model-specific rather than universal: length, stroke and valving are all set for this chassis.
Road Approval
Road approval: no documented status for the Indian SCOUT. Get in touch before ordering if the machine is to stay road legal.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
