DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 04799-65 is a pair of fork springs rated at 6.5 N/mm, 260 mm long with a 25.5 mm inner diameter. Getting the rate right restores the static sag the chassis was designed around.

How Öhlins Makes Them
Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Öhlins sets a baseline for each part number on the machine it was developed on, so it works before anything is adjusted. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get.
Dimensions
Dimensionally this is a 25.5 mm × 260 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 6.5 N/mm.
What This Rate Does
Rates in this range suit lighter riders and machines that spend their time on real roads rather than smooth circuits. The trade is fork dive under braking — noticeable, but rarely the limiting factor on the road. This is the end of the range where small-bump compliance matters more than resistance to diving. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.
Applications
This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it.
Installation
Springs are supplied ready to fit; no cutting, grinding or packing is needed. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Preload spacers usually need shortening or lengthening so the installed length stays correct.
Road Approval
Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.
Fitting and Setup Service
This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
