DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 68000-05 is a pair of fork springs rated at 6.0 N/mm, 330 mm long with a 25.3 mm inner diameter. Under braking a soft spring lets the fork run through its stroke and the geometry with it.
Key Features
- Straight-wound, constant rate
- Supplied as a pair
- Free length 330 mm
- Öhlins part number 68000-05
- Inner diameter 25.3 mm
- 135 mm of usable stroke
- Measured spring rate 6.0 N/mm
Manufacture and Tolerance
Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get.
Size and Rate
Dimensionally this is a 25.3 mm × 330 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 6.0 N/mm.
Where This Rate Belongs
Rates in this range suit lighter riders and machines that spend their time on real roads rather than smooth circuits. This is the end of the range where small-bump compliance matters more than resistance to diving. Comfort and grip come from the spring moving early; this is the end of the range where that happens. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.
Applications
Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. Any workshop with the fork or shock in front of it can answer whether this spring fits — the three figures above are all it needs. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload.
Fitting
Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Spring preload spacers may need adjusting to keep the installed length correct. Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes.
Road Approval
Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins recommends that its suspension is fitted by an authorised service centre. We are one, and we do the work here: installation, servicing and a proper setup. Ask us and we will include it with the order.
