How Öhlins Makes Them
The unit is rebuildable: seals, shims and oil are catalogue items, not a reason to buy a new one. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get.

What This Rate Does
Expect more sag and more movement — that is the point, not a fault. Öhlins goes this soft only where the linkage ratio or the rider weight genuinely calls for it. At this rate the fork sits deep in its travel under load, which is exactly what a long-travel chassis is designed around. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.
Applications
Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers. Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight. Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary.
Installation
Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Rate and preload are separate adjustments: get the rate right first, then set sag with preload. The springs come powder-coated and need no preparation before they go in.
