How Öhlins Makes Them
The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate. Öhlins sets a baseline for each part number on the machine it was developed on, so it works before anything is adjusted. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not.

What This Rate Does
At this rate the fork sits deep in its travel under load, which is exactly what a long-travel chassis is designed around. Expect more sag and more movement — that is the point, not a fault. Rates at this end are for long travel, light riders, or machines that need the wheel to follow the ground rather than skip over it. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider? This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table.
Fitting
Spring preload spacers may need adjusting to keep the installed length correct. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do.
Road Approval
