A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.

What Fitting Involves
Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Fitting is a fork-oil job: the legs come apart, the springs go in, the oil level is set to specification. Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes.
Road Approval
Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.
