DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Öhlins FGRT 212 is a fully engineered upside-down fork that brings ABE-certified, race-derived suspension technology directly to the BMW S1000RR. Carrying the same 30 mm cartridge kit that has proven itself in national Superbike championships, this fork delivers a level of damping precision and braking stability that the standard unit simply cannot match — on road or track.
Key Features
- ABE (Germany) type approval for both 2008–2016 and 2017–2018 BMW S1000RR variants, confirming full road-legal compliance without modification.
- Race-derived 30 mm cartridge kit provides controlled, consistent damping across the full speed range — the same specification trusted in national Superbike competition.
- Independent adjustment of compression damping (left leg) and rebound damping (right leg) allows precise, rider-specific setup without specialist tools.
- Black outer tubes deliver a purposeful aesthetic that complements the S1000RR's aggressive profile while resisting corrosion during all-weather use.
- Optimised brake dive control and improved braking stability give the rider greater confidence at corner entry, whether on a fast road or a race circuit.
- 120 mm travel and a 10.0 N/mm spring rate offer a well-judged balance between outright track performance and usable road comfort.
Engineering & Build Quality
The FGRT 212 belongs to Öhlins' Road & Track fork family — a lineage developed specifically to bridge the gap between demanding road riding and circuit use. The 30 mm cartridge unit at the core of each leg has been refined through seasons of competitive use and delivers the kind of small-bump compliance and high-speed damping control that transforms the S1000RR from a fast motorcycle into a genuinely communicative one. The spring code is 04744-10, part of the 04744 series, and provides a rate of 10.0 N/mm across the full 120 mm stroke.
Setup & Adjustment
Compression damping is adjusted at the base of the left fork leg; rebound damping at the top of the right leg. Both circuits are clearly marked and adjustable with a standard flat-blade screwdriver, so dialling in a preferred setup takes minutes rather than a workshop session. The architecture keeps the two damping functions independent, meaning a change to compression will not affect the rebound characteristic — an important distinction when fine-tuning for a specific track or riding style.
Important Fitment Notes
On BMW S1000RR models equipped with DDC (Dynamic Damping Control), the FGRT 212 must be used together with an Öhlins rear shock absorber. Installation replaces the electronic control of the damping elements; DDC functionality will not operate with this fork fitted. Riders should verify their model specification before ordering.
Fitment & Compatibility
- BMW S1000RR (2008–2016) — ABE approved (Germany)
- BMW S1000RR (2017–2018) — ABE approved (Germany)
