DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Kawasaki Ninja 400 prepared for club racing between 2018 and 2020 does not need the heavy balance weights that keep a road-going front end calm, once the steering lock is handled a different way. Melotti Racing's Steering Limiter replaces that old approach with a single machined part that sets how far the bars can turn, a detail most riders only think about after their first tank-slapper on a stripped-down 400.
Key Features
- Steering limiter for the Kawasaki Ninja 400, 2018 to 2020
- Melotti part LS.KA.4182
- Machined from solid aluminium alloy
- Sets the steering angle for racing use
- Removes the need for the classic balance weights
- Drilling template for the steering-stop pin included in the kit
- Natural anodised finish
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the LS.KA.4182 from a solid billet of aluminium alloy rather than casting it, giving the limiter the rigidity it needs at the one job it does: setting a fixed, repeatable steering angle on a Ninja 400 that has had its road-going lock mechanism altered for racing. Where a standard bike relies in part on balance weights in the bars to settle the front end at speed, this limiter takes a more direct approach, physically stopping the steering at a chosen angle instead. The kit includes a drilling template for the steering-stop pin, so the one hole the part needs can be placed accurately rather than measured by eye.
One Part, One Less Reason to Carry Spare Weights
Riders who have raced a 400 with balance weights still fitted know the routine: swap them for a lighter or heavier set depending on track and tyre, and keep a small box of options in the van just in case. Melotti's limiter removes that whole exercise for a Ninja 400 running without the weights, because the steering angle itself, not the mass in the bar ends, is what is being controlled. It is a change most racers make once, early in a build, alongside the AIS valve cover and before anything to do with suspension settings, since it touches how the bike handles the moment the front wheel is turned hard, not just how it rides in a straight line.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti lists the LS.KA.4182 for the Kawasaki Ninja 400 built between 2018 and 2020 only, and our listing follows that window exactly; it is not listed for later Ninja 400 model years. It is designed to work with the bike's own top yoke and steering stop, not as a direct substitute for the AIS valve cover Melotti also offers for the same Ninja 400, though many riders order both together.
Road Approval
No ABE exists for the LS.KA.4182, and a fixed racing steering limiter of this kind is not something that can be registered for public roads. We supply it for racetrack and closed-circuit use, under the organiser's own rules at any given meeting.
Scope of Delivery
