DescriptionThe whole story▼
The standard Aprilia RSV4 1100, on sale since 2021, gets the same road top yoke Melotti builds for the Factory version, machined from Anticorodal aluminium and cut around 100 grams lighter than the plate it replaces, and fitted mainly by riders who use their RSV4 1100 on the road most weeks but still want the steering head to look and feel like it belongs on a race bike.
Key Features
- Road top yoke for the Aprilia RSV4 1100, Melotti part PS.AP.509S
- CNC-machined from Anticorodal aluminium alloy billet
- Around 100 grams lighter than the standard Aprilia yoke
- Slots add lateral-load flexibility rather than just cutting weight
- Retains Aprilia's original steering profile and fork settings
- Vernier notch for a repeatable clip-on opening reference
- Black anodised finish with stainless Pro-Bolt screws
- Noticeably changes the look of the steering head
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the yoke from a billet of Anticorodal aluminium alloy, taking around 100 grams off the weight of Aprilia's standard RSV4 1100 plate. The slots across its face are cut to make the yoke more responsive to lateral load rather than purely to save that weight, letting the front tyre follow small changes in the road surface a touch more readily through a fast corner. Aprilia's original steering profile is kept rather than replaced with a flatter, simpler shape, so the fork settings an RSV4 1100 owner is used to carry over without adjustment. A vernier notch on the clip-on brackets gives a fixed point to reset the bar opening angle to, and the whole yoke is finished in black anodising with stainless Pro-Bolt screws, the fastener brand used by most MotoGP and Superbike teams.
A Race Look on a Road Bike
Most RSV4 1100 owners never take their bike onto a circuit, but the steering head is one of the few places where a change is visible from the saddle every time the bike is ridden, and Melotti built this yoke with that in mind as much as the flex it adds. The black anodised finish and the Pro-Bolt fasteners give the cockpit a noticeably more purposeful look without touching the bike's fork settings or its handling in any way that would surprise a rider used to the standard set-up, which is why it suits an RSV4 1100 that spends most of its time on the road and only occasionally sees a trackday.
Fitment and Compatibility
The same Road top yoke that Melotti lists for the RSV4 1100 Factory also fits the standard RSV4 1100 without any change. Deciding between this yoke and the GP version, PS.AP.509P, means picking one for the steering head rather than running both, while the RBS brake system (RBS.AP.509) can be fitted regardless of which yoke is chosen.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE, no component certificate and no EC type approval for this yoke. Melotti builds it for racing and closed-circuit use only; riding an RSV4 1100 fitted with it on public roads in Germany is not permitted without a separate entry, and any race meeting applies its own organiser's rules on top of this.
