DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fitting Melotti Racing's RBS Racing Brake System to a Yamaha YZF-R1, built from 2015 onward, is as much an ABS decision as a braking one: the stock anti-lock system has to come off before this kit can go on, which is one reason riders usually make the switch alongside a wider move into data logging and pressure-sensor feedback rather than as a standalone upgrade.
Key Features
- RBS Racing Brake System for the Yamaha YZF-R1, 2015 onward
- Melotti part RBS.YA.3151, built to FIM regulations, usable in Stock classes
- Direct pressure sensor mounting, no extra hose added
- Extra bleed point for faster bleeding
- Extremely compact, fits without modification
- Racing braided steel hoses with a PTFE core
- Stainless steel fittings throughout
- Sensor thread and master cylinder type, OEM or radial, specified at order
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti built this RBS system specifically for the YZF-R1, combining racing hose in braided steel with a PTFE core and stainless steel fittings throughout for security under race conditions. The pressure sensor mounts directly into the manifold without an added length of hose, and the kit includes its own extra bleed point to speed up what is otherwise one of the slower jobs in brake maintenance. It comes together with everything needed for mounting, though the eyelet screws on the master cylinder and calipers are not included, since the stock screws are reused.
Why Riders Order This With Their Data Logger
A direct-mounted pressure sensor only tells a rider something useful if the rest of the system is reading it cleanly, and the compact, no-extra-hose design of the RBS.YA.3151 is built with exactly that in mind: a shorter, stiffer path from caliper to sensor than a bolt-on aftermarket adapter would give. That is also why removing the ABS matters so much here; Melotti is explicit that the kit cannot be used with the YZF-R1's original ABS system or with the stock steering damper, which makes this a conversion for a bike already set up for data acquisition and competition use, not a simple brake-line upgrade for a road-registered machine.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti's own fitment for the RBS.YA.3151 on the YZF-R1 begins in 2015, the range this listing follows, and the identical kit is equally specified for the YZF-R6 from 2017. A Stock version exists for the standard master cylinder and calipers; for anything else, contact us. Tell us your pressure sensor and whether the master cylinder is OEM or radial when you order.
Road Approval
No ABE exists for the RBS.YA.3151, and removing the ABS system this kit requires is not something that can be done on a road-registered YZF-R1. It is supplied for racetrack and closed-circuit use.
