DescriptionThe whole story▼
Removing an Öhlins fork cap with the wrong tool is a quick way to ovalise the pin holes in the cap itself, especially once a wrench has slipped a few times under load, and Melotti Racing built this wrench specifically to avoid that on both Öhlins cartridges and complete forks. Machined from solid Ergal and then anodised, it is shaped to take a torque wrench rather than just a hand grip.
Key Features
- Wrench for removing the cap on Öhlins fork cartridges and complete forks
- Machined from solid Ergal, then anodised
- Taller hex profile machined in for better guidance when used with a torque wrench
- Ergonomic shape for a secure grip
- 4 pins engage the cap to avoid ovalising its holes
- Melotti part CH.F.6O
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti Racing machines this wrench from solid Ergal and anodises it afterward, and rather than a shallow hex that a torque wrench's socket can wobble on, it machines a taller hex specifically to give more guidance inside the bushing housing. Four pins engage the Öhlins cap directly, spreading the load across all four points so none of them rounds out the cap's own holes the way a two-pin or slipping tool eventually does.
Built for a Torque Wrench, Not Just Hand Force
Öhlins specifies a torque figure for reinstalling its fork caps, and hitting that figure accurately needs a wrench that stays seated in a torque wrench's socket rather than one that is only really meant for hand tightening. The taller hex Melotti Racing machines into this wrench, combined with the ergonomic grip for the moments it is used by hand, covers both jobs rather than forcing a workshop to keep two separate tools for the same cap.
Fitment and Compatibility
This is the standard four-pin version, sized for Öhlins fork caps on both cartridge kits and complete forks without an electrical connector; as a workshop tool it is not tied to a particular bike or model year.
Road Approval
No type approval or test certificate applies to this wrench, since it is a workshop tool rather than a fitted part; it does not affect the road status of any bike it is used to service.
