DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR, built between 2017 and 2020, puts a near-superbike V4 into a naked chassis, and everything that comes with that, the vibration through the frame, the sharper braking, the way the front end loads up under hard use, reaches the dashboard directly because there is no fairing between the two. Melotti Racing built the DC.AP.7211 Impact Absorber to give that exposed dashboard the same kind of protection a fully faired bike takes for granted.
Key Features
- Dashboard protection for the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR, Melotti part DC.AP.7211
- Housing machined from a solid aluminium alloy billet
- Technopolymer front panel protects the LCD display
- Tool-free quick-fix mounting for the panel
- Minimal footprint, fits without any modification to the bike
- Elastic mount isolates the electronics from shocks and vibration
- Black anodised finish
- Same part is also listed for the RS 660, Tuono 660 and Tuono V4 1100 Factory
Construction and Material Quality
The absorber is machined from a single aluminium alloy billet, built to hold its shape under the kind of impact a dropped or slid Tuono V4 1100 RR puts through its dashboard area. The LCD display sits behind a separate technopolymer panel, fixed with a quick-fix mounting that needs no tools, which means the panel can be checked or swapped between track sessions as quickly as a visor is changed on a helmet. Underneath both parts sits the elastic mount that does most of the actual work: it decouples the dashboard from the chassis just enough that the heavy vibration a naked V4 engine sends through its frame, and the sharper shocks that come with harder braking and faster direction changes than a mid-size bike produces, are absorbed before they reach the electronics rather than fatiguing a connector or a solder joint over time.
Track Riding on a Naked V4
Riders who take a Tuono V4 1100 RR onto a circuit are usually there for exactly the character the naked format gives up nothing of: hard acceleration out of corners, heavy trail-braking into them, and a chassis that transmits every bit of that back through the bars and the frame. None of that is gentle on a dashboard with no fairing to shelter it, and a bike ridden this way for a full trackday puts more cumulative stress through its instrument mounting than the same bike would see on the road in a year. The absorber's elastic mount is the part designed to take that ongoing load, so the dashboard survives a day of hard circuit use as readily as it would survive a single low-speed drop.
Fitment and Compatibility
Aprilia built the Tuono V4 1100 RR between 2017 and 2020, and the DC.AP.7211 absorber covers this model alongside three others that share its dashboard: the RS 660, the Tuono 660 and the Tuono V4 1100 Factory. A single part number covers every one of them, so ordering the correct absorber only depends on the dashboard, not the specific Tuono trim fitted.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE, no component certificate and no EC type approval for this absorber. Melotti builds it for racing and closed-circuit use only; riding a Tuono V4 1100 RR fitted with it on public roads in Germany is not permitted without a separate entry, and any race meeting applies its own organiser's rules on top of this.
