DescriptionThe whole story▼
Aprilia's RSV4 1100 Factory, built in 2019 and 2020, is the most track-focused version of the RSV4 family carrying this generation's bigger engine, and a bike pitched at that level of use is the one most likely to end up on its side in a gravel trap sooner or later. Melotti Racing's DC.AP.5171 Impact Absorber protects its dashboard for exactly that moment, the same part fitted to the smaller RSV4 RR and RF that came before it.
Key Features
- Dashboard protection for the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, Melotti part DC.AP.5171
- Machined from a solid aluminium alloy billet
- Technopolymer front panel protects the LCD display
- Tool-free quick-fix mounting for the panel
- Minimal footprint, fits without modifying the bike
- Elastic mount keeps vibration and shocks away from the electronics
- ABS sun visor included
- Black anodised finish
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the absorber's housing from a solid aluminium billet, the same approach used across its RSV4 dashboard protection. The technopolymer panel in front of the display is secured with a tool-free quick-fix mount, allowing a rider or mechanic to remove it between sessions without any tools, and an ABS sun visor sits over the top to reduce glare on the display in bright sunlight. An elastic mount underneath both parts absorbs vibration and the shock of any impact before it reaches the wiring behind the panel, and the whole assembly is finished in black anodising.
The Most Track-Ready RSV4
As the flagship of the RSV4 1100 range, the Factory variant is the one most often bought specifically to be raced or taken to repeated trackdays rather than ridden mainly on the road, and that use pattern puts far more cumulative stress through a dashboard than typical road riding ever would. A single low-speed drop in the paddock can crack an unprotected panel just as easily on a Factory as on any other RSV4, and the Impact Absorber's elastic mount is built to withstand both that single event and the steady vibration of a hard-ridden V4 superbike engine across a full day on track.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti supplies this absorber for the RSV4 1100 Factory, built in 2019 and 2020, and the same part was already specified for the earlier RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF, which carry the same dashboard. Nothing about the absorber itself changes between the three bikes. Combining it with the GP or Road top yoke (PS.AP.509P, PS.AP.509S) or the RBS brake system (RBS.AP.509) on the same Factory is straightforward, since none of these parts share a mounting point with the dashboard.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE, no component certificate and no EC type approval for this absorber. Melotti builds it for racing and closed-circuit use only; riding an RSV4 1100 Factory fitted with it on public roads in Germany is not permitted without a separate entry, and any race meeting applies its own organiser's rules on top of this.
