DescriptionThe whole story▼
When a Yamaha YZF-R3, built between 2015 and 2020, goes down on track, the front brake fluid reservoir sits low and exposed on the handlebar, right where a slide tends to drag. Melotti Racing's Brake Fluid Reservoir Guard was built to take that abrasion instead of the reservoir itself, a small part with one clear job on this specific YZF-R3 generation.

- Compatible specifically with the YZF-R3 of this generation
- Black finish
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the PPF.YA.1141 from solid Delrin, an engineering plastic chosen for the way it wears down gradually under abrasion rather than cracking or shattering on first contact with the ground. Its racing design wraps closely around the front brake reservoir on the YZF-R3's handlebar, leaving the fluid level and cap visible for a quick check in the pits while covering the body of the reservoir itself. Mounting uses a single screw together with a threaded expansion bushing supplied in the kit, a fitting method chosen for this handlebar diameter rather than a generic clamp.
What a Reservoir Guard Is Actually For
A reservoir guard does not stop a YZF-R3 from going down in a gravel trap, and it is not meant to. What it does is give the part most likely to be ground against the tarmac or gravel something other than its own plastic body to sacrifice first, which on a brake reservoir matters because a cracked reservoir means a leak, and a leak on a bike that still has to be ridden back to the pits is a far bigger problem than a scuffed guard. Riders who have had a reservoir crack in a low-speed off tend to fit this guard afterwards, not before, which is also why Melotti sells it as a standalone part rather than bundling it only with a full crash-protection kit.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti lists the PPF.YA.1141 specifically for the Yamaha YZF-R3 built between 2015 and 2020, and our listing matches that window exactly. It is not listed by Melotti for the Yamaha YZF-R25, unlike several other parts in this range, so order against your own bike rather than assuming it carries across. It is commonly ordered alongside the Öhlins shock reservoir guard and the RBS brake manifold for the same YZF-R3.
Road Approval
We have no ABE for the PPF.YA.1141. It is supplied for racetrack and closed-circuit use, and we would not describe a part built to take abrasion in a slide as suitable for ordinary road riding regardless of any approval.
