DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every workshop has seen a CBR 1000 RR with a scored fork bottom from a standstill fall. That is what the WAPHO405 is for: 246 g of nylon and Ergal standing between the axle of a CBR 1000 RR and the ground. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. The kit costs less than an hour of workshop time on a CBR 1000 RR.
Key Features
- 246 g for the complete WAPHO405 kit
- Black, Red — one WAPHO405 kit, 2 ways to match the CBR 1000 RR
- 2 colours on the WAPHO405, all at the same price
- Built as a wear part: on the CBR 1000 RR you renew the sliding surface, not the mount
- One WAPHO405 design serves both the front and the rear axle of the CBR 1000 RR
- Front and rear of the CBR 1000 RR are both covered by the single WAPHO405 kit
- Weight kept low where the WAPHO405 hangs furthest from the CBR 1000 RR frame
How Axle Protection Works
The principle is simple and the execution is not: stand proud, give way, stay attached. LighTech's answer on the WAPHO405 is a two-material build: nylon that flexes, Ergal that holds. At 246 g the WAPHO405 is lighter than the fasteners it replaces on some machines.
Construction
Nylon forms the outside of the WAPHO405; the material is elastic enough to take repeated knocks. The insert is Ergal: known for strength, chosen here for its weight. The design assumes the WAPHO405 will be used, and makes the used part the cheap one.
Fitment
The kit is sold for the Honda CBR 1000 RR and uses that bike's own mounting points. No modification to the CBR 1000 RR is involved — the standard points take the kit.
What Is in the Box
What arrives is a full WAPHO405 set at 246 g, ready to go onto the CBR 1000 RR. If the CBR 1000 RR needs a second kit later, the WAPHO405 number is the only thing to quote.
In the Workshop
No special service tool is involved in fitting the WAPHO405 to the CBR 1000 RR. Thread-locking compound is sensible on a CBR 1000 RR that sees track use. Colour is the only choice to make — 2 of them, Black, Red, all fitting the CBR 1000 RR the same way.
Approval and Road Use
We list the WAPHO405 without an approval claim because LighTech supplies none. On a registered CBR 1000 RR the protector's position can become a question at the next inspection. For a track-only CBR 1000 RR there is nothing to clarify.
