DescriptionThe whole story▼
There is nothing cosmetic between a HYPERMOTARD 821 and the ground. That is what the WAPDU403 is for: 200 g of nylon and Ergal standing between the axle of a HYPERMOTARD 821 and the ground. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. The kit costs less than an hour of workshop time on a HYPERMOTARD 821.
Key Features
- Nylon outer body on the WAPDU403: high elasticity, so it absorbs rather than shatters on a HYPERMOTARD 821
- The LighTech logo is screen-printed into the WAPDU403 nylon, not stuck on afterwards
- Metric hardware throughout the WAPDU403, so a HYPERMOTARD 821 workshop needs nothing special
- Bolts to the standard HYPERMOTARD 821 fixing points — no drilling, no adapter plates
- Black, Red — one WAPDU403 kit, 2 ways to match the HYPERMOTARD 821
- The WAPDU403 adds 200 g to a HYPERMOTARD 821 and changes nothing about how it steers
- Designed around the HYPERMOTARD 821 specifically rather than adapted from another model
How Axle Protection Works
An axle protector works by standing further out than the part it defends. The WAPDU403 puts the elastic material outside and the structural material inside. The coloured insert is sold in pairs, so a damaged HYPERMOTARD 821 is back to standard for small money.
Fitment and Compatibility
LighTech lists the WAPDU403 for the Ducati HYPERMOTARD 821. No modification to the HYPERMOTARD 821 is involved — the standard points take the kit.
Construction and Material Quality
LighTech moulds the outer shell of the WAPDU403 in nylon because it gives before it breaks. The insert is Ergal: known for strength, chosen here for its weight. The design assumes the WAPDU403 will be used, and makes the used part the cheap one.
Scope of Delivery
What arrives is a full WAPDU403 set at 200 g, ready to go onto the HYPERMOTARD 821. Nothing in the WAPDU403 box is specific to a colour, so a later change of finish is just the visible part.
Installation
Fitting the WAPDU403 to a HYPERMOTARD 821 is a hand-tool job on a cold engine. Leave the final torque until the position is confirmed on the HYPERMOTARD 821. Colour is the only choice to make — 2 of them, Black, Red, all fitting the HYPERMOTARD 821 the same way.
Approval and Road Use
There is no type-approval certificate for the WAPDU403 and we do not claim one. A protector fitted outside the outline of the HYPERMOTARD 821 is something a German inspector may question. Check with your inspection body if the HYPERMOTARD 821 sees public roads. For circuit use the point is moot.
