DescriptionThe whole story▼
Contact at the lever on an R1 does not scratch anything — it locks the front wheel. The LighTech ISS200RT is the GC-Tech brake lever guard: carbon- and graphite-filled technical polymer, 39.6 g, 132 mm guard length. Colour choice runs to 7 options and changes nothing about the fit on the R1. It is the cheapest safety part you can bolt to a R1.
Key Features
- Covers the R1 across 23 model years (2004 to 2026)
- Listed for the R1 specifically rather than as a universal fit
- No drilling and no cutting on the R1
- 7 bush finishes for the R1: Black, Blue, Gold, Green, Grey, Orange, Red
- LighTech part number ISS200RT, catalogued for the Yamaha R1
- Meets the lever-guard requirement most track organisers apply to the R1
The Failure It Stops
The danger at the bar end of an R1 is leverage, not damage. The 132 mm guard length span of the ISS200RT is what keeps anything from reaching the lever itself. At 39.6 g the ISS200RT adds less to the R1 than the bar-end weight it replaces.
Fitment and Compatibility
Fitment is the Yamaha R1 across 2004 to 2026. The guard mounts to the bar end of the R1 via the matching LighTech adapter.
Fitting
Installation on the R1 starts with removing the bar-end weight. Re-check the fasteners after the first ride, as with anything at the bar end. Instructions are in the box; the R1 needs no modification.
What You Get
One guard per box — the R1 takes two for a matched pair. With the preselected “Adapter” value, the adapter for the R1 arrives in the same delivery as the ISS200RT. LighTech keeps the ISS200RT in its spare-parts programme rather than treating it as disposable.
The Adapter Option
At LighTech the guard and the adapter are two part numbers; on this page they are one choice. Which adapter the R1 needs depends on the internal diameter of its bar tube. For this bike the adapter is KPL311, preselected as “With Adapter KPL311” in the option above. Only where KPL311 is already fitted does “Without Adapter” make sense on the R1.
Road Approval and Regulations
A brake lever guard is required equipment in most racing regulations and at a growing number of track days. LighTech supplies no road type approval with the ISS200RT and we make no approval claim. On a road-registered R1 the fitted position is a question for your inspection body, not for us.
