DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a Z1000 the brake lever is both a control and the first thing to break. The LighTech LEVD149J is the folding Model J brake lever: magnesium and aluminium, 250 g, with a fully black finish throughout. The listing covers the Z1000 across 8 model years (2017 to 2024).
Key Features
- Sold individually; a matched pair on the Z1000 is two part numbers
- Developed for the braking loads a Z1000 actually generates
- Machined from magnesium and aluminium, not cast
- Reach adjustment the original Z1000 lever does not offer
- It costs less than the bodywork a folding lever protects
- 100 % Made in Italy, with the tricolour logo on the blade
Changing It Over
The LEVD149J goes on with the Z1000 on its stand, engine cold. Set the reach before the first ride, not at the first corner. Re-check the pivot bolt after the first ride.
What It Fits
LighTech catalogues the LEVD149J for the Z1000 (2017 to 2024). It replaces the original lever on the standard perch of the Z1000 — no adapter and no modification.
Reach, Weight, Survival
Reach is personal, and the factory lever on the Z1000 treats it as optional. The LEVD149J carries LighTech's reach adjustment, which the original Z1000 lever does not. LighTech levers are used by teams in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and WSBK.
The Three Lever Models
LighTech's J is the quiet member of the range. No inserts means nothing to replace and nothing to lose on a wet Z1000. Choosing between this and the K with its grip inserts and the H with its revised geometry is a question of hand and taste, not of fit.
Supplied As
LighTech ships the LEVD149J individually, not as a left-and-right pair. The opposite side is a separate part number.
Road Approval
Compliance with road legislation is something LighTech states for the whole lever range. A declaration is not a certificate, and the LEVD149J ships without one. For a track-only Z1000 none of this applies.
