DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rebuilding the cockpit of an R6 usually stops at the reservoir, and it should not. The OBT005 pairs a billet shell with a see-through liner over 30 cm³. Nothing on the R6 is cut or drilled to fit it.
Key Features
- 30 cm³ capacity — the figure to check against your R6 master cylinder
- The mounting bracket is a separate LighTech item — see the note below
- Universal by design: LighTech builds one reservoir, not one per Yamaha model
- LighTech part number OBT005, listed for the Yamaha R6
- 106 g in place of the original box
- 106 g on the R6
What a Visible Reservoir Buys You
A fluid reservoir does two things, and the factory part does only one of them. LighTech machines the OBT005 shell from billet and lines it with translucent plastic, so 30 cm³ of fluid is readable without tools. LighTech builds one reservoir for many machines rather than one per model.
Maintenance
Brake fluid attacks paint and anodising alike, so wipe spills off the R6 immediately. Beyond that the OBT005 asks nothing of you.
Application
LighTech lists the OBT005 for the Yamaha R6. The reservoir itself is universal. What makes it fit the R6 is the bracket and the hose, not the tank.
Sold Separately
LighTech sells the reservoir and its mount as separate articles. LighTech offers a front bracket (OBT008) and a rear one (OBT009), plus the OBT003 support, and all three are black only. We can advise which of the three suits your R6 — it takes one question.
In the Workshop
Fitting the OBT005 to an R6 is a hand-tool job. Catch the fluid, swap the reservoir, refit the hose and bleed the system before the R6 moves. The original part goes back on the R6 any time.
In the Package
LighTech ships the OBT005 complete except for the mount. Packaging carries the reference, so a second order is unambiguous.
Regulations and the Hydraulic Circuit
The hydraulic circuit is the one area where a styling part stops being a styling part. The OBT005 carries no approval mark. Have a workshop bleed and pressure-test the R6 circuit once the part is on, whatever your inspector says.
