DescriptionThe whole story▼
The standard brake reservoir on an R6 is a plastic box the designer hid rather than styled. The OBT007 is machined from solid, laser-engraved with the LighTech logo, and holds 16 cm³. 8 finishes exist; see the specifications for the full range. The 599 cc R6 takes it with the standard fittings.
Key Features
- Anodised rather than painted, so a wash does not dull it
- Supplied individually for the R6
- Laser-engraved LighTech logo on the shell
- Reversible — the original part goes back on the R6 any time
- Translucent plastic liner, so the fluid level on the R6 stays readable
- 106 g in place of the original box
Maintenance
Fluid darkens as it absorbs water — on the R6 that is now visible without tools. Beyond that the OBT007 asks nothing of you.
Why Replace the Reservoir
There is a reason race bikes carry visible reservoirs. The OBT007 comes with a rubber gasket under the cap, which is what keeps fluid where it belongs. Anodised rather than painted, so washing the R6 does not dull it.
What It Fits
LighTech lists the OBT007 for the Yamaha R6. LighTech builds this reservoir as a universal part — it is not machined to the R6 specifically, and the fit depends on where you mount it.
Fitting
Fitting the OBT007 to an R6 is a hand-tool job. Use fresh fluid of the grade the R6 specifies, not what is left in the bottle. No permanent alteration to the R6 is involved.
What You Get
One reservoir per box, with its sealing gasket. LighTech keeps it as a stock item.
Before You Order
One thing to order alongside: the bracket. The brackets are listed under OBT003, OBT008 and OBT009; they differ in height and projection, not in quality. Tell us where you want it on the R6 and we will put the right bracket on the order.
Regulations and the Hydraulic Circuit
On an R6 this component carries brake or clutch fluid under pressure. LighTech does not certify the OBT007 for road use, and neither do we. Track-only machines raise no approval question; a registered R6 does.
