DescriptionThe whole story▼
Getting back on the bike after a wrist injury is often more a question of confidence than of fitness. The Leatt Wrist Brace 5.5 is built for exactly that moment: it limits how far the wrist can bend backwards and so reduces the risk of hyperextension. Leatt designed it for riders returning after a wrist injury and for those who want extra stability on track or trail.
One brace fits both the left and the right wrist, and two interchangeable flex struts let you decide how much movement you want to allow.
Key Features
- Limits rearward wrist movement to reduce the risk of hyperextension
- Two interchangeable flex struts for medium or low flex
- Strong composite construction with a stiff matrix
- ATOP cable closure for a secure, personalised fit
- Elasticated wrist strap to help prevent arm pump
- Twin-section neoprene liner and two-finger location for comfort
- Ambidextrous: fits left and right
- Spare padding kit included
Adjustable flex system
The heart of the 5.5 is its strut system. Leatt includes two interchangeable flex struts, one for medium and one for low flex. With the softer strut you keep more rearward movement for feel at the bars; the stiffer one restricts the wrist more strongly. Because the struts are interchangeable, you can tailor the movement restriction to your needs.
Fit & closure
The brace is closed with an ATOP cable fastening system for precise, secure adjustment and a personalised fit. A two-finger location system positions the brace on the hand and improves comfort. The wrist strap is elasticated, which Leatt says helps prevent arm pump on long, intense motos. Sizes are S/M and L/XL.
Protection & certification
Leatt has the Wrist Brace 5.5 CE tested and certified to the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The composite construction is designed to reduce the risk of hyperextension. CE certificate and declaration of conformity are available from Leatt.
Material & comfort
According to Leatt, the brace consists of 55 % polyamide, 30 % polypropylene, 10 % neoprene and 5 % stainless steel in the ATOP cable components. The twin-section neoprene liner cushions the contact areas, and the spare padding kit in the box is there for extended use. Leatt gives the weight as 520 g.
Where it is used
Leatt aims the 5.5 at motocross and enduro riders, both those coming back from a wrist injury and those who simply want extra stability on track or trail. Leatt provides a manual, the CE certificate, the EU declaration of conformity and a PFAS declaration for the brace, so all the paperwork is available should your club, insurer or physiotherapist ask for it.
What you should know
The brace limits wrist movement and so reduces risk; it cannot prevent every injury, and after an injury the decision when to ride again belongs with your doctor. Please read Leatt's manual before first use, as it explains the fitting of the struts. Check how the brace works with your gloves and grip before your first race.
Colour
Stealth Black/Grey keeps the 5.5 understated. The dark colourway works with any jersey and glove combination, and the grey accents add contrast without drawing attention to your wrist.
