DescriptionThe whole story▼
Half the light in, half kept out: the silver Iriz mirror of this grey Velocity 5.5 sits at 50% VLT, close to the middle of Leatt's lens range. That makes it a good all-rounder for riders who don't want to swap lenses between a sunny start and a cloudier afternoon. The understated grey frame and strap let the silver mirror do the talking.
Underneath, Leatt's Velocity 5.5 Iriz brings a bulletproof 2.7 mm lens, permanent anti-fog, OTG space and a Tear-Off pack.
Key Features
- Silver Iriz mirror with 50% VLT, a middle value for mixed light
- Mirrored lens that Leatt says cuts bright light and boosts contrast
- Optically correct, 2.7 mm thick bulletproof double lens with anti-scratch coating
- Tested to ANSI Z87.1-2015 and the MIL-DTL-43511D ballistic standard, CE EN 1938:2010
- 45 mm anti-slip strap on outriggers, tapered frame for narrow eye ports
- Tear-Off pack included, prepared for the optional 48 mm WideVision Roll-Off
Frame and helmet compatibility
The Velocity 5.5 Iriz uses the same tapered frame as the rest of the 5.5 family, narrowing at the sides to suit helmets with less room around the eye port. A 45 mm strap runs through outriggers and is coated to resist slipping. At the bottom, the frame is left open; Leatt designed it to drain itself so that dirt can drop away instead of creeping up the lens.
Silver Iriz lens at 50%
Iriz lenses from Leatt are 2.7 mm thick, made of bulletproof material, described as optically correct and coated against scratches. The double-pane construction keeps fog away permanently, and the WideVision shape spans 170°. With 50% VLT the silver mirror covers a broad band of conditions; as a general guide it works on bright but not blazing days and copes better with changing cloud than a very dark lens. Leatt quotes impact testing to ANSI Z87.1-2015 and to the military standard MIL-DTL-43511D, along with CE certification to EN 1938:2010 under PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Foam and OTG
Leatt fits a triple-layer face foam in two densities with an anti-sweat fleece backing. Because the goggle is designed over-the-glasses, prescription glasses can stay on under it.
Tear-Off and Roll-Off
Posts come installed and a Tear-Off pack is in the box. For heavy mud, the WideVision 48 mm Roll-Off can be added as an option. Leatt notes that Iriz lenses fit Tear-Off and Roll-Off configurations alike.
What you should know
A mid-range lens is a compromise by nature: in harsh desert sun a darker lens such as a 28% mirror is more comfortable, and in dense forest or at dusk a clear 83% lens shows more. Leatt sells Velocity lenses between 22 and 83% VLT. The Roll-Off system is not part of the delivery.
Colour
Grey keeps everything muted: a light grey frame with black sections, a grey strap with a darker Leatt logo and a silver mirror that reflects the surroundings. It is the version for riders who prefer a technical, low-key look and want a goggle that works with any helmet colour.
