DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Neck Brace 6.5 Carbon is the top of Leatt's neck brace range and the one Leatt calls the choice of its moto and MTB champions. What sets it apart is the chassis: 65% of the brace is carbon fibre, laid up as Leatt's carbon fibre matrix platform, which Leatt describes as ultra-light. Around that carbon core you get the full adjustment and safety package of the range.
The Black/White 6.5 Carbon comes in S/M and L/XL, weighs from 600 g, and is built for motocross, enduro and trail riders who want the flagship.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre matrix chassis, 65% carbon fibre
- Leatt's flagship neck brace
- Three-way SureFit adjustment, front and rear
- CoreFlex split rear thoracic strut, breaks away before causing injury
- Low-profile push-button closure
- Emergency release
- From 600 g, sizes S/M and L/XL
- Brace-On compatible, CE to PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Carbon construction
Carbon fibre is stiff for its weight, which is why Leatt uses it for the main chassis of the 6.5. The material breakdown is 65% carbon fibre in the chassis, 20% polyamide (nylon) in the thoracic strut and fittings, 10% polyurethane foam in the padding, and 5% other materials such as the metal fittings and elastics. On the upper shell the carbon structure stays visible under the finish.
At the back sits the CoreFlex split rear thoracic strut. It flexes with the spine during riding and is designed to break away under extreme force before it can injure the back.
Protection and certification
The 6.5 works on the same principle as every Leatt brace: it limits how far the helmet can move in a crash and passes load from the neck into the shoulders and torso. The helmet rim platform gives a defined contact surface, and the collarbone cut-out keeps the rim away from the collarbone. Leatt states that its braces reduce critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% compared with no brace, quoting an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS. This is the manufacturer's statement. The 6.5 Carbon is CE tested and certified as PPE to Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
SureFit adjustment and fit
SureFit sliders on the front and rear give the 6.5 three-way adjustment, the same level of adjustability as the 5.5. Leatt publishes no centimetre size chart. The manual explains the check: with helmet and protector on, the brace should sit evenly on the shoulders without rocking, and as you look up, the helmet rim should come close to the brace without being lifted by it. Choose S/M or L/XL by build and, if the decision is close, talk to us before you order a brace at this level.
Closure, emergency release and armour
A low-profile push-button opens and closes the brace and stays flat under the jersey. The emergency release mechanism, marked on the brace, is there for quick removal after an accident. With a Leatt chest or body protector that carries Brace-On shoulder pads, the 6.5 rests on those pads.
Care
Clean the carbon shell and the washable injected foam padding with soap and water only, no solvents. Leatt's manual says a brace that has been in a crash must not be used again, and that a brace in frequent use should be replaced every two years. It comes in plastic-free packaging.
What you should know
- Leatt gives the weight as from 600 g, the same starting figure as the 5.5.
- The four interchangeable rear wedges in Leatt's manual are listed for the 5.5, not the 6.5.
- No official cm size chart; fit is confirmed on the rider.
- Wear with a full-face helmet; carbon does not replace correct set-up or riding skill.
Colour
Black/White on the 6.5 Carbon means a black carbon shell with the weave visible, set off by white and red stripes on the shoulders and white Leatt logos. It looks technical rather than loud and sits well with black and white kit. The white accents show dirt first; the black carbon hides it well.
