DescriptionThe whole story▼
Orange is a working colour on a race track: marshals, other riders and the people waiting at the pit fence spot it sooner than black or grey. The Leatt Neck Brace 5.5 in Orange puts that visibility on Leatt's all-round brace, a low-profile design that Leatt says works with modern riding gear and that closes with a flat push-button.
Underneath the colour it is the full 5.5: reinforced polyamide from 600 g, sizes S/M and L/XL, three-way SureFit adjustment and the CoreFlex breakaway strut, built for motocross, enduro and trail.
Key Features
- High-visibility orange shell
- Low-profile push-button closure
- Emergency release for removal after a crash
- SureFit adjusters front and rear, three ways of adjustment
- Rear strut angle set with four interchangeable wedges
- Breakaway CoreFlex split rear strut
- From 600 g, sizes S/M and L/XL
- Sits on Leatt Brace-On shoulder pads
Putting it on and taking it off
The orange 5.5 opens at a flat push-button, which keeps the closure from standing proud under your jersey or catching on a protector. Press, swing the brace open around the split front, place it on your shoulders, click it shut. For the situation nobody wants, Leatt fits an emergency release: the manual describes an emergency open screw so that the brace can be taken off the rider after a crash.
Low profile under your gear
Leatt designed the 5.5 to sit flat so that it works with today's riding kit rather than pushing jerseys and protectors out of shape. Most Leatt chest and body protectors carry Brace-On shoulder pads; the Orange 5.5 rests on those, keeping brace and armour aligned.
Getting the fit right
Three adjustment points, front and rear, come from the SureFit sliders, and four swappable rear wedges set the angle of the back strut. Leatt does not provide a cm size chart; its manual asks you to judge the fit instead. With helmet and protector on, the orange brace should rest evenly on both shoulders and not rock, and with your head tilted back the helmet rim should approach the brace without being lifted. Pick S/M or L/XL by build; if you are not sure, we can help before you order.
Protection
The 5.5 reduces how far the helmet can travel in a crash and moves force from the neck into the stronger shoulders and torso, with collarbone cut-outs that keep the helmet edge off the bones. Leatt cites an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS and states its braces reduce critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% compared with no brace; we quote this as the manufacturer's claim. The brace is CE tested and certified to the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Frame and materials
85% reinforced polyamide forms the main frame, 10% nylon sits in the rear thoracic strut, and 5% polyurethane foam makes up the injected, washable padding. The CoreFlex rear section is split so it can move with your back and break away under extreme pressure before causing injury.
Care
Use only soap and water on the orange frame and the pads. Leatt's manual says not to reuse a brace after a crash and to replace it every two years if you ride often. Packaging is plastic-free.
What you should know
- Bright orange shows roost and scuffs more than dark colours.
- No official cm chart; fit is confirmed on the rider with helmet on.
- Sizes are S/M and L/XL; XXL is only made in Stealth Black/Grey.
- Wear with a full-face helmet; the brace lowers risk, it does not replace skill.
Colour
This orange is loud on purpose. It matches orange-accented kit and bikes, and it is easy to see in dust, in a forest section or in low evening light. The trade-off is that the shell shows dirt and the odd scrape sooner than black, so give it a quick rinse after muddy days to keep it bright.
