DescriptionThe whole story▼
Once a young rider has outgrown a foam starter brace, the Leatt Neck Brace 3.5 Junior is the step up to a proper composite chassis. It brings the construction of Leatt's adult 3.5 down to junior proportions: a polymer composite platform that starts at 485 g, a CoreFlex rear strut designed to give way under extreme load, and a rear adjustment so the brace can be set to the child's back.
This listing is the White version, a clean, bright shell that suits youth motocross and enduro kits and is easy to see on track.
Key Features
- Junior size, shaped for young riders
- From 485 g, polymer composite chassis
- One-way rear adjustment to set the back strut
- CoreFlex rear thoracic strut that breaks away under extreme load
- Collarbone cut-out keeps the helmet rim off the bone
- Sculptured split front for easier fitting
- Injected foam padding that is easy to clean
- CE certified to PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Protection and the Leatt claim
Like all hard-shell Leatt braces, the 3.5 Junior works by limiting how far the head and helmet can travel in a crash and by passing the loads that would otherwise end up in the cervical spine into the shoulders, chest and back. The upper edge is shaped as a striking platform for the helmet rim, and the collarbone cut-out stops that rim from landing directly on the collarbone.
Leatt states that its braces reduce critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% compared with riding without one, citing an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS. That figure is the manufacturer's statement for its brace range, not a test result we have checked for this junior model.
Chassis and rear strut
85% of the 3.5 Junior is a polymer composite that forms the main chassis. A nylon reinforcement (10%) sits in the thoracic strut at the back, and the padding accounts for the remaining 5% polyester. Leatt calls the rear section CoreFlex: it is split and folds with the young rider's spine as they move on the bike, and in an extreme crash it is designed to break away before it can injure the back.
Setting the fit
The 3.5 Junior has a one-way adjustment at the rear, so you can set how the back strut sits for your child. The sculptured split front opens to put the brace on. Leatt does not publish a centimetre size table for its neck braces; the manual explains how to check the fit instead. With the helmet on, the brace should rest on the shoulders without rocking, and when the child looks up, the helmet rim should come close to the brace without the brace forcing the helmet. If it does not look right, ask us before you ride.
Cleaning and replacing
The injected foam pads are easy to keep clean; use only soap and water on the pads and the white shell, no solvents or pressure washer. Leatt's instructions say a brace that has been involved in a crash should not be used again, and a brace that is used often should be replaced every two years. The 3.5 Junior is delivered in plastic-free, recyclable packaging.
What you should know
- Junior is a single youth size; Leatt gives no cm range, so check fit on the child.
- Adjustment is rear-only and one-way; the 5.5 Junior offers more settings.
- Always wear it with a full-face off-road helmet.
- No neck brace can prevent every injury, and it does not replace riding skill.
Colour
White gives the 3.5 Junior a crisp look and makes the child easier to see against dark ground or in a group. White also shows dirt fastest: after a muddy day the shell will look brown until it is washed, so plan a quick clean with water and a sponge. If you prefer a colour that hides track grime, look at the Black 3.5 for older riders.
