DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Neck Brace 3.5 is the lightest way into Leatt's hard-shell adult braces: a polymer composite frame from 485 g, available in S/M, L/XL and XXL, with the same CoreFlex breakaway rear strut found further up the range. It suits riders who want a brace for motocross, enduro or trail riding without paying for adjustment they may never use.
In Black, the 3.5 is the understated choice. It blends with dark chest protectors and almost any jersey, and it keeps looking tidy through a season of dust and mud.
Key Features
- Adult sizes S/M, L/XL and XXL
- Weight from 485 g
- Polymer composite chassis with nylon-reinforced strut
- One-way rear adjustment
- CoreFlex split rear strut designed to break away before it injures
- Shape that lets the helmet move naturally
- Easy-to-clean injected foam padding
- CE certified as PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Weight and comfort
At 485 g and up, depending on size, the 3.5 is the lightest adult brace in this group. Its sculpted shape follows the shoulders and leaves room for the helmet to move as you look around, so it does not fight you when you turn your head through a rut or look over your shoulder on a trail. The front is split and sculptured, which helps it close comfortably around the neck.
Material and construction
The main chassis of the Black 3.5 is 85% polymer composite. Leatt calls this a composite matrix platform; it is the stiff part that takes and spreads crash loads. The rear thoracic strut is reinforced with nylon (10%), and the injected foam padding (5% polyester) cushions the contact points. The CoreFlex section at the back is split so it can flex with your spine while riding and break away before it causes injury in an extreme crash.
Protection
The 3.5 is built to keep the helmet from travelling too far in a crash and to route the force that would hit your neck into your shoulders and torso instead. A collarbone cut-out keeps the helmet rim off the collarbone. Leatt says its braces lower critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% versus no brace, based on an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS. Treat that as the manufacturer's figure for the range.
The brace is CE tested and certified as personal protective equipment to Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Sizing and adjustment
Choose between S/M, L/XL and XXL. Leatt does not publish a centimetre size chart, so the manual describes a fit check instead: with your helmet on, the brace sits evenly on both shoulders, and when you tilt your head back the rim should meet the brace rather than the brace pushing the helmet. Fine-tuning happens at the rear, where a one-way adjuster sets the strut angle against your back. If you are between sizes, contact us before you order.
Care
Wash the foam padding and shell with soap and water only. Leatt's manual is clear that a brace which has been in a crash should be retired, and that frequent riders should replace it every two years. The 3.5 is shipped in plastic-free, recyclable packaging.
What you should know
- Only one rear adjustment; the 4.5 and 5.5 offer more settings if you are hard to fit.
- No official cm size chart; fit is checked with your own helmet and protector.
- Must be worn with a full-face off-road helmet and set up correctly.
- It reduces risk but does not replace riding skill or make crashes safe.
Colour
Black is the colour that hides wear best. Roost marks, dust and the occasional scuff from loading the bike stay much less visible than on a white or bright shell, and black works with every kit colour. On a hot, sunny day a black shell gets warmer to the touch than a light one, but with the padding against your body you will notice little of it while riding.
