DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Moto 5.5 FlexLock Evo in Black is a full-height motocross boot for riders who want the latest version of Leatt's FlexLock concept without a loud colour scheme. The black shell carries a few silver and red accents and the white Leatt symbol on the shin, so it sits easily next to almost any kit.
Behind that understated look is the complete Evo package: TPU armour around shin, ankle, heel and foot, a FlexLock lower boot that Leatt designs to reduce the forces reaching ankle and knee, and a closure made up of the SlideLock top seal and four forged aluminium Over-Lock buckles.
Key Features
- FlexLock lower boot with adjustable flex to reduce ankle and knee forces (Leatt)
- Rear torsion blade that limits front and rear overflexion
- Reinforced TPU heel counter for support and impact protection
- 3D-shaped 3DF impact foam over both ankles
- SlideLock one-way upper closure with Velcro pull-tab
- DualZone sole, extended footpeg riding zone and steel shank
- CE certified to prEN 13634:2017
Protection and ankle control
The protective core is TPU: the shell covers the shin, the ankle, the heel and the foot, and a reinforced TPU heel counter adds support on the bike as well as impact protection at the back. Shaped 3DF foam sits over each ankle bone.
The FlexLock lower boot gives the model its name. You can set its flex to your preference, and Leatt states that the system is intended to lower the forces on ankle and knee. A rear torsion blade works with it and stops the boot from bending too far forwards or backwards; the pivot bolt assembly has also been improved on the Evo.
Closure and fit
The SlideLock closure at the top of the shaft slides one way only and locks automatically, sealing the boot around the calf; it is operated with a Velcro pull-tab. Below it, four forged aluminium buckles with the Over-Lock system are mounted on stainless-steel bases.
Leatt reworked the ankle volumes for the Evo and describes the fit as comfortable even for wide feet. A one-piece front bellow, a new rear bellow and a collar made from elastic fabric let the boot move with the leg.
Sole and bike feel
The DualZone sole combines different hardness zones for grip, durability and feel. An extended footpeg riding zone adds control, a steel shank reinforces the sole, and the 3D bottom shell is set up for peg sensitivity. The low-profile toe box makes it easier to get under the gear lever, and a heel-grip ankle design adds stability.
Inside the boot
The inner lining comes in two pieces, is padded and is water-resistant. At the heel, an anti-slip reinforcement keeps the foot from lifting. The boots are shipped in plastic-free packaging.
Intended use
Leatt positions the 5.5 FlexLock Evo as a premium boot for motocross and demanding off-road riding, with a sole tuned for the footpegs rather than for walking long distances.
What you should know
This is a motocross boot without a waterproof membrane; only the lining is water-resistant, so a long wet day will get through. Leatt lists a weight of 4,550 g. The sizes follow whole US steps from US 7 to US 14, so it is worth measuring your foot before choosing between two neighbouring sizes.
Colour
Black is the most forgiving version of this boot: roost, mud and rub marks from the frame show far less than on the white models. Shell, straps and sole are black, broken up by silver buckle hardware, small red details and the white Leatt symbol on the shin plate. In direct summer sun a black boot absorbs more heat than a light one.
