DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Knee Guard FlexMesh is the hard-cap option among Leatt's sleeve-type knee guards. A FlexMesh cap covers the kneecap and is certified to EN 1621-1 Level 1, while the extended sleeve reaches high up the thigh for a secure hold on rough tracks.
What sets it apart is coverage around the knee rather than only on it: Leatt adds padding above the knee for handlebar strikes and protection on the sides, areas that a simple pad often leaves open.
Key Features
- FlexMesh hard cap for impacts and slides
- CE certified to EN 1621-1 Level 1
- Padding above the knee against handlebar strikes
- Side and upper knee impact protection
- MoistureCool and AirMesh wicking fabrics
- High-rise sleeve with silicone-printed non-slip cuffs
- Leatt protection score of 14 points (manufacturer rating)
- Weight from 300 g per pair (manufacturer)
Coverage around the knee
Most knee guards concentrate on the kneecap. The FlexMesh adds a padded zone above the knee, which Leatt designed for handlebar strikes, and impact protection on the sides and the upper knee. For motocross riders who come off the bars or clip the bike with the inside of the leg, that extra area is the main argument.
The extended leg sock reaches high on the thigh, which Leatt says gives good support and keeps the guard positioned.
Protection and certification
The knee is CE certified to EN 1621-1 at Level 1. The FlexMesh impact technology combines a ventilated mesh structure with a hard cap, so the guard both absorbs and helps you slide when you hit the ground.
Leatt rates the FlexMesh at 14 protection points. As with all Leatt scores, this is the manufacturer's own system, not a CE test value.
Ventilation and fabrics
The FlexMesh armour is perforated, and the sleeve uses MoistureCool and AirMesh wicking fabrics. Leatt describes the guard as a well-ventilated choice for hot conditions; the open structure lets air pass around the cap rather than trapping it under a closed shell.
Fit and sizing
Single sizing in S, M, L, XL and XXL gives a close fit, and silicone-printed cuffs stop the sleeve from sliding during movement. Leatt states a weight from 300 g per pair, depending on size.
FlexMesh or a soft guard?
Leatt offers the FlexMesh alongside soft guards such as the 3DF 5.0 Evo. Both are Level 1, but they protect differently. The FlexMesh has a hard cap that helps you slide and adds padding above and beside the knee; the 3DF 5.0 Evo relies on soft foam only. On Leatt's own scale the FlexMesh scores 14 points, the 3DF 5.0 Evo 16. If you want a hard cap and Level 2 together, the 6.0 Evo is the step up.
Riding use and documents
Leatt describes the FlexMesh as a guard for tough rides and lists it for motocross, enduro and trail. Its documents comprise a manual, an EU type-examination certificate from RICOTEST and an EU declaration of conformity. Packaging is plastic-free.
What you should know
The FlexMesh is certified to Level 1, not Level 2. It is a pull-on sleeve, so it has to go over your foot; there is no hook-and-loop opening. It has no hinges and gives no ligament support, and Leatt does not describe shin coverage beyond the knee area.
Colour
The black FlexMesh looks technical rather than flashy: the dark mesh structure shows its ventilation pattern only up close. Black also hides the wear marks that a hard cap picks up from boots and seat edges.
