DescriptionThe whole story▼
Young riders crash, jump and land just like adults, and their knees deserve the same kind of protection. The Leatt Z-Frame Jr brings Leatt's knee brace technology to a dedicated junior size, so a child's knee joint gets guidance and support rather than just padding.
It is built on the adult Z-Frame: an injected composite chassis with aluminium hinge covers, designed by Leatt to help reduce forces on the knee and the risk of ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries, plus CE-certified impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1.
Key Features
- Knee brace designed by Leatt for young riders
- Injected composite chassis with aluminium hinge covers
- Slim hinges that fit comfortably inside boots
- Easy-fit, low-profile strap system
- Hyperextension stops at 10°, 15°, 20° and 25°
- Knee impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1
- Interchangeable hinge padding for a custom fit
Why a brace for kids
A knee guard cushions blows to the kneecap; a knee brace guides the joint itself. Leatt designed the Z-Frame Jr to help reduce forces that can lead to ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries. Hyperextension stops at 10°, 15°, 20° or 25° limit how far the knee straightens.
The knee is also CE tested and certified as impact protection to EN 1621-1 Level 1.
Construction
Like the adult model, the Junior uses an injected composite chassis with aluminium hinge covers for rigidity. Leatt's material data lists 50% glass-filled nylon composite, 25% carbon-injected polymer, 10% aluminium alloy, 10% EVA foam and 5% other components. Slim hinges keep the brace narrow at the knee for good bike feel.
Fit for smaller legs
A comfortable, low-profile strap system makes it easy for a young rider, or a parent, to put the brace on. Interchangeable hinge padding sizes allow the fit to be fine-tuned, which helps on growing legs. The low-profile shin bone pad is designed for a good fit inside boots.
Size
The Z-Frame Jr comes in a single Junior size. Leatt does not publish a height range for it on the product page, so compare it with your child's leg measurements against Leatt's sizing guidance before ordering. Leatt lists it as a pair. Packaging is plastic-free.
What you should know
A knee brace for children needs the same careful set-up as an adult brace: correct hinge position, strap tension and hyperextension setting. Check the fit regularly as your child grows, and inspect the brace after any hard crash. No brace can exclude knee injuries. If your child has had a knee injury, ask a doctor before choosing the stop setting.
Colour
Black keeps the Z-Frame Jr neutral, so it matches any kids' kit and team colours. The dark frame also hides the scuffs a young rider's brace inevitably collects on the practice track.
